Business Process Automation with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

Coming December 2008!

Objectives

This 2 day class is for developers using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 as a development platform for business process automation.

Each unit includes a hands-on lab. Each attendee receives a book of ~400pp and resources for all samples and labs.

Students who master the concepts in this course will be able to:

  • Use the basic out-of-the box business process automation features
  • Create and extend SharePoint Designer workflows
  • Use ASP.NET to create custom forms and modify list forms
  • Use InfoPath forms with form libraries and Microsoft Outlook
  • Develope custom workflows with Visual Studio using ASP.NET and InfoPath forms
  • Integrate SharePoint with external systems

Experience

Some portions of this course assume an existing understanding of SharePoint, Web development, and .NET development experience.

Introduction – Out of the Box BPA

  • Understanding business process automation
  • Using Task lists
  • Creating and using Alerts
  • Out of the box workflows

SharePoint Designer Workflows

  • Understanding the workflow designer
  • Defining steps using conditions and actions
  • Using lookups and dynamic routing
  • Creating forms and using variables
  • Extending SharePoint Designer with custom activities

SharePoint and ASP.NET Forms

  • Modifying list forms using SharePoint Designer
  • Creating and using custom ASP.NET list forms
  • Collecting data with ASP.NET forms and controls

InfoPath Forms

  • Creating InfoPath forms
  • Using form libraries
  • Using InfoPath forms in Outlook 2007
  • Collecting document properties with Document Information Panels

Developing Custom Workflows

  • Understanding Association, Initiation, and Modification
  • Creating sequential workflows
  • Creating state machine workflows
  • Integrating with external systems

Workflow Forms

  • Creating a custom association form in ASP.NET
  • Creating a custom initiation form in ASP.NET
  • Creating custom task forms in ASP.NET

InfoPath Workflow Forms

  • Using InfoPath forms as workflow forms
  • Consuming InfoPath forms from form libraries
  • Integrating Outlook 2007 and Document Information Panels with workflows

Data Extraction and Reporting

  • Using Microsoft Access to retrieve data
  • Using the DataView Web Part
  • Using list queries
  • Accessing SharePoint data from external systems with Web services
