Title: Real World ASP.Net MVC

Synopsis: This is an MVC presentation focused on code, not academics. Paul recently re-factored a high traffic web site from WebForms to MVC and is eager to show you both how easy it was and the quantum leaps ASP.Net MVC will give your organization. The talk's goal is for an experienced ASP.Net developer to leave with a solid understanding of ASP.Net MVC basics.

Material that will be new to most .Net developers include: living without drag-and-drop controls, jQuery, JSON based AJAX, MVC partials, custom routing etc. This may sound complicated but the hurdle to learning MVC is not as large as you believe - any WebForms developer with a little commitment can move to MVC and start building world-class websites again.

Bio: Paul Lockwood has nineteen years IT experience and three IT degrees including a Masters in AI and Robotics. He has used .Net exclusively since early 2001 and specializes in larger web based projects. He owns an Atlanta based .Net consulting company but has previously worked in five different countries for companies including: London Stock Exchange, UBS, SwissRe, Philips.com, Accenture and EDS.

New Home for the Atlanta .NET User Group Web Site

We had some problems with our domain name registration and DNS entry when the name came up for renewal last week. As a result, we've moved to a new home at http://www.atldotnet.org. The new site is based on SharePoint and offers considerably more functionality for considerably less effort than the old site.

Please spread the word, and if you have a blog, help us get back on the first page of search results by linking to the new site.

Thanks,
--Doug Ware

Title: Working with new ASP.NET features in .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1

Synopsis: When ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 was released in January of 2007, not all features from "Atlas" were included in the final build. These became part of a program called "ASP.NET Futures," and were included as periodic releases in CTP drops. With the release of .NET 3.5 SP1, several of these preview features were promoted to first class features of ASP.NET. This presentation will provide an overview of these new components, including the ASP.NET AJAX browser history control and AJAX script combining, which improves performance in ASP.NET AJAX applications. The presentation will also cover .NET 3.5 SP1 data centric technologies such as the Entity Framework, ASP.NET Dynamic Data, and ADO.Net Data Services, as well as how these tools play together.

Bio: James Ashley is a Senior Consultant with Magenic Technologies in Atlanta specializing in ASP.NET AJAX, WCF and WPF.
